after having been in this game a minute (as they say in my hood). i've made a couple of observations, which has lead me to write this piece. "older ESTABLISHED industy types ONLY deal with younger people who have there "ISH" together" (REPEAT). lately i've been working with youngins (20ish-30ish) and i've notice a common thread on two different fronts. there are those that know it ALL; you can't tell them anything and if you try it goes in one ear...(yesss a cliche)...and comes out the other or they already "know" that. (no one really takes them seriously, as they know everything and NOTHING all at the same time, AND they constantly end up in the BOTTOM three).
then there's the group that knows a little something and they "WANT" to BUILD on that knowledge.
they're EAGER and WILLING to learn...soaking up, knowledge and information,. they know they're good (i have no problem with confidence, arrogance on the other hand...)but they're aware that their skills can be better. they are students of their craft. (continuously learning and growing). they are open to dialogue and YES they will challenge you BUT they also come with facts and correct pronunciation of the english language (+ slang). i'm always willing to teach what i know to any and everyone who will listen (especially youngins)...but i am sad to say "ALL OF THAT" has changed. i'm not a big fan anymore + it "trips up" my positive energy and it gets me heated. why must we ALWAYS do it the hard way, all the way. now i'm looking @ the youngins with a side eye.....sorry!
